Current Vacancies:

Portfolio Working/Teaching Opportunity for Early Career GP

The Hub Plus are excited to announce the formation of a new Trainee Transition Scheme for the Chesterfield GP Speciality Training Programme (GPSTP) and are looking to appoint a team of three tutors to help shape and deliver the scheme. This initiative is as a result of a collaboration with The Phoenix Programme and builds on the success of the existing Trainee Transition Schemes supporting GP trainees on the Nottingham and Sherwood Forest GPSTPs. The Hub Plus and the Phoenix Programme are delighted to bring this initiative to Derbyshire.

This post would particularly suit an early career GP with an interest in medical education.

The Chesterfield Trainee Transition Scheme will support GP ST3s through interactive small group teaching sessions. The teaching materials cover a wide range of topics to complement the traditional GP training curriculum, to aim to prepare our colleagues for life beyond training.

Trainee Transition Scheme Tutor Role:

  • GP educator to facilitate locality group teaching sessions for GP trainees
  • Total payments = £2000 per tutor
    • £1500 to deliver 6 sessions of small group teaching and facilitate a small group teaching WhatsApp group
    • £500 to engage with educator training and support – required for all new tutors
  • Associate contract (self-employed)

Responsibilities and Development opportunities:

Under the guidance of the Phoenix Programme Early GP Career Lead you will:

Deliver two hour face to face small group teaching sessions on Wednesday afternoons over a 6-month period. The scheduled dates for teaching are:

  • Wednesday 18 November
  • Wednesday 2 December
  • Wednesday 3 February
  • Wednesday 3 March
  • Wednesday 21 April
  • Wednesday 19 May

Act as a point of contact for GP trainees in your locality group and signpost colleagues to opportunities and support available via the The Hub Plus Derbyshire

Shadow one teaching session currently provided by an educator from the Phoenix Team. Please note that this will involve travelling to a Nottinghamshire based practice. Provisional available training dates: 7 October, 21 October, 4 November (TBC)

Attend an in-person group educator training session provided by the Phoenix Team in the afternoon of 3 November

Develop as a medical educator through experience of reviewing and delivering pre-written teaching materials

Applicant attributes and competencies

Required Desirable

Registered GP working at an NHS practice within the Derbyshire ICB footprint

Be an early career GP in a substantive post. Experience of training in and/or working in Chesterfield area

Excellent communication skills

Excellent presentation skills

Interest in medical education and enthusiasm for teaching

Previous teaching experience and/or qualifications

Able to organise own time and workload including appropriate prioritisation

  

Interest in the welfare of colleagues and facilitating career development for others

  

Willingness to work in an organisation whose values promote equity, diversity and inclusivity

  

Be able to drive or arrange transport to deliver face to face teaching and the shadowing session in Nottinghamshire
