EDI Programme 2026-2027: Lunch and Learn Empower Hour and Meetup Events

 

This timetable of events offers practical, educational sessions on a range of fascinating topics, designed to empower and equip Derbyshire’s primary care workforce.

It is delivered through a mix of online ‘lunch and learn’ and face to face ‘evening meetup’ events to facilitate participation regardless of your role or working patterns.

LGBTQ+ Health Inequalities in Primary Care

Exploring the specific health disparities affecting LGBTQ+ patients, from higher rates of mental health conditions to barriers in accessing screening and preventative care. This session gives you practical approaches to deliver more inclusive, evidence-based consultations during Pride month and beyond.

South Asian Heritage

A celebration of South Asian culture, heritage, and contributions to the NHS. An evening of food, storytelling, and connection. Come and share experiences, learn from one another, and celebrate the richness that South Asian communities bring to General Practice and the patients we serve.

Allyship in Practice

Allyship in Practice Teams: Moving beyond awareness into action. This session gives you practical tools to support colleagues from underrepresented backgrounds in your day-to-day work. Covers active bystander techniques, how to challenge inappropriate behaviour constructively, and building a culture where everyone feels they belong.

Black History Month

A celebration of Black culture, heritage, and contributions to the NHS. An evening to come together, hear from inspiring voices, and honour the achievements of Black staff and communities within General Practice. A space for recognition, pride, and connection.

 

 

Disability History Month

Understanding the barriers disabled patients and staff face in General Practice. This session covers reasonable adjustments, hidden disabilities, accessible communication, and how to move beyond compliance towards genuine inclusion.

 

 

Race and Mental Health

  • Online (Lunch and Learn)

Race and Mental Health Examining the well-documented disparities in mental health care for ethnic minority patients. This session looks at inequalities in diagnosis, access to talking therapies, and compulsory detention rates, and gives you practical approaches to deliver more equitable mental health care in your consultations.
