Cancer Education Fellowship

The Hub+, Derbyshire is the home for training, education and support offers for Derbyshire primary care staff. Our primary purpose is the provision of training, education, development, retention and the complete ‘wrap-around’ support required throughout a career in primary care whether that is clinical, non-clinical, management or leadership. 

The Hub+ General Practice Cancer Education Fellowship

Due to an expansion of our training offer we have an exciting opportunity to offer a Cancer Education Fellowship, delivering pan-Midland’s work. Supported by our experienced team, the successful candidate will help ensure our quality training and education offers continue to meet the needs of Derbyshire General Practice.  

 The Role 

The Hub+ is seeking someone with a keen interest in cancer prevention and education. The time commitment for this role is 2 sessions per week (equivalent to 8 hours 20 minutes) 

The successful candidate will help coordinate, create and drive forwards the Midlands cancer education offers, working in collaboration with 11 ICS Training Hubs and both the East Midlands and West Midlands Cancer Alliances. This work is pivotal in delivering the NHS Long Term Plan, alongside reducing health inequalities for our communities, and early detection and prevention work.  Our Hub + team includes Profession-specific leads, Project Coordinators, Administrators and Educators. We have robust communication channels, a new and improved website and a learning management system to host webinars / learning packages. 

We are very much looking for someone with passion, drive and experience to lead on this role with the ability to be self-motivated and prioritise the development of others.  

Candidates must be a clinician on the appropriate professional register working within general practice in Derbyshire. Responsibilities  

Working with The Hub+ team, the successful candidate will have several key responsibilities including, but not limited to: 

  • Collating and reviewing existing educational material for healthcare professionals and patients.  
  • Increase the uptake of resources such as Gateway C.  
  • Identify best practice and health inequalities work already being undertaken in Derbyshire. 
  • Work with practices and PCNs across the East Midlands to identify patients to provide personal accounts of their journeys for lived experience webinars and case studies.  
  • Work with experts to create deliver short webinars or podcasts in the identification of red flags and screening for non-clinical staff.  
  • Link with EMCA/WMCA and cancer charities, to identify services and patient information that are underutilised and develop a plan to cascade this information across the region.  
  • Link with Cancer Leads across 11 ICBs and Training Hubs to identify what’s available and area needs/pathways.  
  • Work with the Hereford and Worcestershire TH Fellow to ensure a pan-Midlands approach to cancer education, prevention and support.  

The Offer

Hours: 2 sessions / 8 hours 20mins per week annualised at 96 sessions over the 12 month period. 

Location: Hybrid – Base site RTC, RTC Business Park, London Road, Derby  

Contract type: 12-month self employed contractor  

Pay: £20,000, paid monthly in instalments of £1666.67.
