LGBT+ Awareness in Primary Care: Practical Skills for Staff

Overview: 

Join Derbyshire LGBT for an educational four-part session designed to build understanding, empathy, and practical knowledge around LGBT+ identities and experiences. This session aims to create more inclusive environments by addressing key topics that impact the LGBT+ community.

1. Language and Pronouns
Explore the importance of inclusive language and correct pronoun use. Learn how respectful communication fosters a sense of belonging and affirms individual identities.

2. Barriers
Gain insight into the social, systemic, and personal barriers faced by LGBT+ individuals in everyday life and in accessing services. This section will highlight the importance of recognizing and addressing these challenges.

3. Screening
Understand how to approach sensitive conversations and assessments in a way that is respectful, inclusive, and free from assumptions. We will discuss best practices for creating safe spaces during screenings or consultations.

4. Top Tips
Walk away with practical strategies and actionable tips to help you become a better ally, support LGBT+ colleagues and patients, and promote inclusivity in your work and community.

Whether you're just starting your learning journey or looking to deepen your understanding, this session provides a supportive space to ask questions and grow your awareness.

3. To learn about issues around screening specific to trans communities
Both sessions will explore useful strategies for working effectively with LGBT+ staff and patients. There will also be time for a Q&A section as part of the session.
