Inclusive Leadership: Cultural Competency

Date : 21/05/25

Time : 13:00-14:00

Location: Online

Cultural competency is understanding, appreciating, and interacting effectively with people from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. At its core, it is recognising one's own cultural biases and values, actively seeking to understand others' perspectives, and adapting behaviours to bridge cultural differences.
In the context of inclusive leadership, cultural competency is crucial for creating an environment where all individuals feel valued and respected, fostering innovation, and improving team collaboration.

1. Understanding cultural awareness
Participants will be able to identify their own cultural backgrounds and biases, as well as their power and privileges, and understand how these factors influence their perceptions and interactions. They will recognise the importance of cultural awareness in fostering an inclusive workplace.
2. Developing intercultural communication skills
To ensure respectful and open interactions with team members from different backgrounds, leaders will study and put into practice effective communication skills that bridge cultural barriers, such as active listening, empathy, and nonverbal communication.

3. Implementing inclusive practices
Attendees will learn practical tools and techniques for applying cultural competency in their leadership roles to create a more inclusive and cohesive team environment. These include encouraging diverse perspectives in decision-making, ensuring diverse recruitment practices, and constructively addressing cultural misunderstandings.
