Heart failure Education sessions objectives:
• To provide high quality Evidence based education on the management of Heart failure
• Support those team who are involved in the management of HF patients in Secondary/Primary and Community Care
• Provide a clinical perspective with interactive sessions and discussion of current management strategies and guideline based management
• Education delivered by HF specialists with experience in the clinical management of Heart failure.
Current modules:
• Module 1: Symptomatic Chronic Heart Failure – Disease overview, guidelines and referrals ( Hf Ref)
• Module 2: Symptomatic Chronic Heart Failure – First line evidence-based treatment options. ( Hf Ref)
• Module 3: Symptomatic Chronic Heart Failure – Second line evidence-base treatment options ( Hf Ref)
• Module 4: Disease burden and evidence based case in HFpEF.
o Module 1: Symptomatic Chronic Heart Failure – Disease overview, guidelines and referrals
The definition of heart failure, its prevalence and the burden on the population
The pathophysiology of heart failure, the signs and symptoms and the different classifications
The investigations required to help reach a diagnosis of heart failure
Your local services and referral pathways
o Module 2: Symptomatic Chronic Heart Failure – First line evidence-based treatment options
Review the pathophysiology of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and relate this to the pharmacology of different heart failure therapies
Be aware of the trajectory of HFrEF and the importance of medical therapies
for improving outcomes
Understand national and European guidance for pharmacological management of HFrEF
Evaluate the benefits and considerations of the four main pillars of HFrEF therapy:
ACE inhibitors/ARBs/ARNIs, β-blockers, MRAs, SGLT2 inhibitors
Use case studies to build understanding and help put theory into practice
o Module 3: Symptomatic Chronic Heart Failure – Second line evidence-base treatment options.
Review the pathophysiology and trajectory of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and recall the importance of pharmacological therapies for improving patient outcomes
Review national and European guidance for the pharmacological management of HFrEF, specifically options after first-line treatments
Understand how different pharmacological management options can help people with HFrEF and know when and how to consider prescribing each
Use case studies to build understanding and help put theory into practice
o Module 4 – Heart Failure with preserved Ejection fraction:
Ejection fraction and its role in differentiating between heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)
The prevalence and burden of HFpEF
The complexities involved with managing comorbidities in HFpEF
The role of Jardiance (empagliflozin) in adult symptomatic chronic HFpEF, based on evidence from the EMPEROR-Preserved trial
