Learning objectives (Level 2 Infant feeding training):

This training is for clinical staff to provide more information and increase confidence on how to treat common infant feeding issues seen in general practice.

Clinical staff will increase their understanding of common infant feeding issues and learn practical ways to manage them, plus find out where to find the latest prescribing guidance relating to infant feeding.

The training will give clinicians confidence to signpost patients to the most appropriate support.

• Understanding of common infant feeding issues and practical ways to manage them.
• Knowledge on the latest prescribing guidance relating to infant feeding/ those who are breastfeeding.
• Knowledge on when to reassure families about normal infant behaviour.
• Knowledge and understanding of how to advise on safe and responsive formula feeding.
• Understand how using the bottle feeding and breastfeeding tools can be used as conversation aids to support the discussion around infant feeding
• Understand that all babies should have had a breastfeeding or bottle-feeding assessment completed at the new birth and 6–8-week review and if this is not the case the HV can be tasked to review this
• Recap on the local support pathway. Confidence to refer/signpost to the most appropriate support.
Kindly ensure you have completed the Level 1 Infant Feeding Series on the LMS prior to your scheduled Level 2 course date. However, please note that you are welcome to register for the Level 2 training even if Level 1 is still in progress.
