Supporting Our LGBT+ NHS Community

At The Hub Plus, we are proud to support primary care staff across Derby and Derbyshire by helping to create a safe and supportive environment for LGBT+ colleagues.

As part of our commitment to equality and compassion in the workplace, we offer practical support to ensure everyone feels respected, valued, and able to thrive — regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or background.

This page brings together useful resources, event listings—including local Pride celebrations — and links to both national and local organisations offering specialist LGBT+ support.

The Hub Plus Business Director, Claire Leggett -

"At The Hub Plus Derbyshire, we are proud to support and stand in solidarity with the LGBT+ community.

We believe that everyone deserves a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment in which to learn, grow and thrive in our NHS and General Practice workforce—regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.

Diversity and inclusion and valuing every person are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to fostering a culture where LGBT+ individuals feel welcomed, represented, and empowered. Our aim is to ensure General Practice and our own organisation is a place where all voices are heard and celebrated.

We are delighted to launch LGBT+ Awareness in Primary Care: Practical Skills for Staff, which we hope brings you an opportunity to connect and celebrate being part of something bigger."

The Hub Plus Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Director, Dr Shehla Imtiaz-Umer -

"Being an ally is about showing up, listening, and creating space where everyone feels safe to be themselves. I’m really pleased to see this show of support for our LGBTQ+ NHS colleagues.

We all have a role to play in making our workplaces more inclusive and respectful, not just during Pride, but throughout the year. Small actions, everyday conversations, and being open to learning all make a difference to make our places of work truly inclusive and welcoming for all.

Education sessions like these and others focusing on equity, diversity and inclusion are an important part of helping us understand why it matters that everyone feels able to bring their whole selves to work. It’s how we build a culture of trust, belonging and compassion across our workforce.

Allyship isn’t about getting it perfect, but about being present, being kind, and being willing to stand alongside others."
