Digital Fellowship

We are inviting expressions of interest for a Digital Leadership Development Fellowship. This role is open to any clinician in Derbyshire and for this fellowship post we are looking for people within the first 5 years of qualification and who are passionate about digital transformation and modernising general practice 

Fellowship Overview 

This fellowship supports the NHS Ten Year Plan and the principles of Modern General Practice by accelerating digital transformation in primary care, building clinical leadership capacity in digital health and supporting integrated neighbourhood working and the development of digital pathways. 

The Expectations 

Leadership Fellow will: 

  • Provide clinical input to the design, implementation, and evaluation of new digital pathways and tools
  • Support the adoption and spread of digital best practice across Derbyshire
  • Connect and showcase modern general practice digital expertise across the county
  • Inform and be informed by national digital leadership and peer learning networks
  • Support practices in need with digital transformation and QI initiatives
  • Develop and deliver training/education sessions for colleagues on digital tools and pathways
  • Build skills in leadership, negotiation, and influencing through structured learning and mentorship 

Role Eligibility Criteria 

  • Be able to commit to working 2 sessions per week across 12 months and potentially subject to a 6-month extension
  • A current GP, Nurse, Allied Health Professional, or Enhanced/Advanced Practitioner working within Derbyshire within the first 5 years of qualification
  • A clinician in a permanent role, locum or bank but working in Derbyshire and actively registered with appropriate professional body 
  • Planning to stay in Derbyshire for at least the next 5 years
  • Intending to complete the Fellowship in addition to existing clinical sessions (i.e. a net gain)
  • Not be subject to interim suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983
  • Commit to allocated time and follow the Hub+ QI process including adhering to quarterly project reporting schedule
  • Demonstrated interest in digital health, QI, and leadership
  • Committed to supporting general practice and system-wide improvement
  • Committed to the principles of Inclusive Leadership
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively 
  • Able to communicate effectively

Our Offer 

Hours: 1-2 Sessions per week (4-8 hours) 

Duration: Fellowship contract up to 31st March 2027. Pending on budget, progress and re-procurement, fellows may be extended past 31st March 2027. 

Location: Hybrid – Base site RTC, RTC Business Park, London Road, Derby, DE24 8UP 

Contract type: Fellowship agreement as individual contractor paid directly or third-party contractor paid through GP Practice/PCN/Employing organisation. 

Approx rates: Up to £10k per session, total funding £20,000 per fellowship dependent on current salary and experience 

Support and Development 

The fellow will have supervision and mentorship from the GPPB Digital Lead and national digital leadership networks including opportunities to contribute to and learn from national digital transformation initiatives 

 They will have access to Hub Plus mentorship, learning resources, and opportunities to contribute to national policy and practice development.
